about us
14North is located on Douglas’ North Quay in a former 19thC timber merchant’s dwelling. The family-owned and family-run restaurant occupies this redesigned space, transformed with modern and rustic sensibility to echo the honest, simplistic cuisine. 14North is for connecting with the community whilst sharing the simple pleasures of good food.
the design
The restaurant incorporates organic materials like wood, brick and zinc that add to 14North’s rustic charm whilst filling the space with warmth. Fresh contemporary touches, such as the glass staircase and distinctive lighting, give the space a modern feel that creates an inviting venue for people to gather for a quick drink or to linger for a hearty meal.
our suppliers
The menu has been created to showcase the produce of local farmers, fishermen and artisans. We are committed to sourcing Manx food where possible and using ingredients such as Jenny and Stephen’s organic salad leaves from Staarvey Farm, bottled still and sparkling water from Green Mann Spring, Pentti Christian’s Ellerslie Rapeseed Oil and Charlotte and Will’s Elderflower Keshel from the Apple Orphanage.
the environment
We are dedicated to saving energy and have adopted a number of sustainable initiatives. As well as reducing our carbon footprint by sourcing local produce, 14North recycles all its glass, plastic and paper. We have minimised our water consumption by using motion sensor taps and conserved electricity by installing low energy Dyson Airblades.
the food
At 14North our cuisine respects the integrity of traditional and rustic ingredients and our menu reflects a commitment to sourcing seasonal and local produce. The menu varies slightly between lunch and dinner with both offering daily specials. For lunch this includes our sandwiches served on homemade foccacia, a choice of flatbreads or a bowl of hearty stew. In the evening we offer more large plates showcasing the island’s array of produce. This could be seafood: lobster, queenies or mackerel or meat dishes featuring Manx beef, lamb or pork. Whether enjoying lunch or dinner, there are also small plates and desserts to start and end the meal. See our menu for sample dishes.
the beverages
We serve a range of quality wines and beers that complement our food whilst providing great value for money. We always ensure that we have good affordable wines available by the glass or carafe. And because we have a full alcohol license you can enjoy your drinks at any time of day or evening without feeling you need to buy a meal. We do not aim to be a specialty coffee shop, although you may be pleasantly surprised by the quality of our coffee drinks, produced from beans freshly roasted especially for us.
the experience
We are passionate about delivering excellence in every aspect of your dining experience; great ambiance, great food and great service. If you think we are succeeding please come back (and be sure to tell your friends!). If we fall short of your expectations we ask that you please tell us how we can improve.
